There is a version of this article that could be titled "How AI Replaces Pastoral Care." That is not what this is. Pastoral care โ the work of sitting with someone in grief, praying with a family in crisis, visiting a member who has drifted from community โ is irreducibly human work. No software replaces it.
But there is another problem that software can genuinely help with: the logistics of care at scale. When a church has 200 members, a dedicated pastor can reasonably track who needs follow-up and when. When a church has 500 members, or 800, or when pastoral responsibilities are distributed across a team of elders and ministry leaders โ the tracking problem becomes real.
The Care Plan System
StewardTrack's care plans let any authorized user create a follow-up task attached to a specific member. "Brother Andres has been absent for 4 weeks โ assign follow-up to Elder Tony." "Sis. Linda was hospitalized last week โ assign pastoral visit to Ptr. Ed." "New member Jayson completed membership class โ assign new member follow-up to Connect Group Leader Marco."
Each care plan has a status (open, in progress, completed) and a due date. The assigned person receives a notification. The system tracks what was assigned and what was completed.
What This Changes
Without a care plan system, follow-up happens if the right person remembers to do it. With care plans, it happens because someone was assigned to do it and the system tracks whether they did. This is not surveillance โ it is accountability to the people you are supposed to be caring for.
The Human Part Is Still Human
The care plan tells Elder Tony to call Brother Andres. It does not tell him what to say. The conversation โ the listening, the prayer, the pastoral wisdom โ that is entirely Elder Tony's. The system just made sure the call happened.
"I was missing check-ins with members I really cared about โ not because I did not care, but because I could not remember who I had called last month. Now the system reminds me. I am a better pastor because of it." โ Senior Pastor, Makati
